Today in poker-rooms there are a lot of varieties of tournaments. We present you the description of the most popular types of tournaments in online-poker.
In general, online-poker tournaments can be divided into two categories. This is SNG and MTT. Also tournaments are single-table and multi-table, with buy-in and without. For each type of tournament there are strategies, adhering to which you can become a successful tournament player.
This is a tournament in which many tables are involved. Players start the game with a certain number of chips. Players at a different tables compete against each other, ante and/or blinds gradually increase. As soon as the players lose and exit the game, a transfer is made on the tables. To remain tables full, the poker room software automatically redistributes the players between the tables. As a result, the tournament culminates - the players who stayed moved to the final table, where the main winner will win all the chips from their opponents, and that mean, all the players who took part in the tournament. The amount of compensation depends on the number of participants in the game.
This is a small tournament, in which the prize is participation in a larger tournament. A certain kind of competition, which serves as a guide to a larger and more meaningful tournament. Place at the table in the satellite is inexpensive. But in case of victory, the player will receive a ticket to the tournament, in which you can win from several hundred to thousands of dollars. The rules of the game in satellites are identical to multi-table tournaments.
This is a type of tournament, participation in which stands nothing. There is no minimum amount for participation and there is no buy-in, but there is an opportunity to win real cash prizes. To take your place at the table you only need to register in the upcoming freeroll. Such tournaments are held for advertising purposes in order to attract as many new players to the poker-room as many poker players after the freerolls start playing for real money. They are held fairly regularly. By the way, thanks to the funds won in freerolls, many players started their successful poker career without a deposit.
This kind of tournament is not tied to a specific time. It starts after the required number of participants is registered at the table. The SNG tournament can be either multitable or single table.
Players can buy chips during this tournament. In a regular tournament, if you run out of chips, you're out of the game. In this tournament you have the opportunity to buy chips and stay in the game. There is a certain ”rebuy period“ at the beginning of the tournament, which is allowed to buy chips. Usually this period is one hour, until the break in the game. After that, you can not buy chips. Although sometimes there are additions to the ”rebuy period“ - add-ons, when you can buy chips. In Rebuy tournaments, there may be restrictions on the number of purchases or the amount of purchases.

These are tournaments with the repeated entries. They allow player to re-enter, in the case of departure during the late registration. Unlike re-buy, you can re-enter after a while, and not immediately after the flight, as is in the case with the rebuys; and you are likely to be transplanted for another table. Usually are allowed 3-4 re-entries. Each re-enter is considered as an individual player, which increases the prize pool of the tournament.
These are tournaments in which the blinds increase very quickly - every 5 minutes (sometimes even every 2 minutes!). Because of this, stacks are also increasing. In these tournaments, luck plays a much more important role than in usual tournaments. There are very few post-flop games, because players are forced to either go to the pre-flop, or throw cards off. In such tournaments, aggressiveness is very important. If you are passive, the blinds will very quickly ”eat“ your stack.
These are tournaments in which a part of the prize pool is distributed for knocking out the players. The award can be fixed. Find out the amount of payout for knocking out a particular player by hovering the cursor over the target. You can also have reward for an exclusion member from the poker team.
In the Knockout Bounty tournaments, there are standard tournament rules, but the amount of the same buy-in is divided into a common contribution to the prize pool and the award-winning that reaches the one who climb over one or the other player. Money prize-bounty is given for each player struck out of the table and immediately enters the game balance of the winner.
Here is an example of the Knockout tournament with a total buy-in of $ 10 ($ 7 + $ 2 + $ 1). This means that the amount of buy-in is divided in following way:
$ 7 - the amount of buy-in, which enters the main prize pool
$ 2 - bounty prize
$ 1 - commission
Single Bounty is a type of tournament bowing, in which players have the opportunity to purchase chips without paying a bonus prize. Thus, the reward for knocking out the player will be accrued to the opponent only when the losing player finally leaves the tournament.
Multi Bounty is a type of tournament bowing, in which players have the opportunity to purchase chips only on condition that they pay a bounty prize. Thus, the reward for knocking out the player will be charged to the opponent every time, regardless of whether the winner will leave the tournament finally or make the purchase, and will continue the game.

Tournament on many tables for knocking out rivals. It combines all the aggravation of tournaments for knitting - they remain the strongest! Shootout tournaments have standard tournament rules, but unlike ordinary tournaments, players do not fit into other tables to ensure even distribution of participants at the tables. The game on each table lasts until there is one player remaining, which will be transferred to other winners of their tables. The last one to remain in the tournament and will be announced as a winner! There are double, triple and more shootouts.
At the end of each round, the number of chips of players that move to the next round are returned to the starting stack value. For example, starting stack = 500 chips. If it's a heads-up tournament and one player has won all the chips from the other player and had 1000 chips at the end of the round, then at the start of the next round the number of chips will return to the starting stack (500).
This is a kind of shootout tournaments. In this tournament, you will have to meet the opponents one by one, knocking each of them alternately on the way to victory. The winner takes everything. In the Heads-Up tournaments, participants play one by one behind the olympic system until there is one player left. The number of participants in the heads-up tournament must be two times (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, etc.). In such tournaments it is recommended to play experienced poker players, because such game requires some skills and knowledges of the strategy.
The winner of the tournament is determined after a certain time, by the number of stack. The expression - ”Time is money!“ - is the best description to this type of tournaments, which requires both attention and discipline in the game. In the Timeout tournaments have standard tournament rules, but the main difference is that the tournament lasts for a certain time. As a rule, such tournaments last for 15, 30, 60, 90, 120 or 180 minutes. After the end of the time, the results of the tournament are summed up. Players with the largest stacks, at the time of the completion of the game process, share the prize pool of the tournament. In the case when several players have scored the same number of chips, the player taking the final stack before the opponent by time takes the highest place. If the players have collected the stack at the same time, they will divide the prize space and receive an equal amount from the prize pool.
This is a special type of tournament, in which the player must outstrip the opponents and collect the limit of the necessary stack. In this tournament you need to demonstrate the skills of quick decision making and to be smarter than your opponents, if you want to get to the "finish" first. Stake limit tournaments set the stack limit that the player has to score to win the tournament. The limit is set before the start of the tournament, and as soon as the number of chips of one of the players reaches the limit, on all tables there are playing active hands and the tournament ends. The winner is announced by the player who first gains a given amount of stack. The rest of the prize pool is divided according to the number of players' chips. If several players have scored the same number of chips, the player which taking the necessary stack before the opponent in time takes the highest place. If the players have picked up the stack at the same time, they will divide the prize space and receive an equal amount from the prize pool.
In general, theare not much different from the above poker tournaments. The only thing that distinguishes this type of tournament is the invitation cards whithout which is impossible to get to the table. This can be an invitation to players of a particular VIP status, a reward for registering or making a deposit. As a reward, player recieve money or valuable prizes.
